About the place
Veragua is a charming town on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, just 25 minutes from Cabarete. Horseback riding here is nothing short of magical — a perfect combination of lush hills, crystal-clear rivers, and vibrant countryside life. With its breathtaking natural scenery and authentic rural charm, Veragua offers one of the most unforgettable riding experiences in the region.
Itinerary
Our day begins at Rancho El Contento, a picturesque ranch surrounded by green hills and peaceful farmland. Here, you’ll meet your friendly and well-kept horses and receive a short introduction before setting off on your riding adventure.
The journey takes us through Veragua’s rural landscapes, where you’ll experience the true Dominican countryside — quiet trails, palm-lined paths, and friendly locals waving as we pass. We’ll cross the stunning Yásica River several times, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation and breathtaking views of the river valley. Along the way, there will be plenty of opportunities to take amazing photos and capture the spirit of this magical place.
We’ll stop to enjoy a refreshing drink and later have the chance to cool off with a swim in the river. After about three hours on horseback, we’ll return to the ranch, full of joy and new memories.
Our next stop is the Rugama Ecolodge, where a delicious Dominican lunch will be waiting for us. While the meal is being prepared, Rudy, the knowledgeable owner, will take us on a guided tour through his tropical garden, where you’ll discover fascinating plants with healing properties and see animals like iguanas and crocodiles.
Lunch is served in a treehouse setting, offering beautiful views and a cool breeze. Afterward, you can relax by the ecolodge’s pool, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature.
After a day full of adventure, nature, and authentic local experiences, we’ll head back home feeling relaxed and inspired.
