Courage Travels organizes and operates day tours and excursions in the Dominican Republic, including (without limitation) cultural tours, boat excursions, off-road experiences, horseback riding tours, entries to national parks and museums, and tours that may include transportation and meals. We directly guide most tours and, where appropriate, collaborate with licensed local specialists (e.g., city, national park, or museum guides).

2) Acceptance of these Terms

By booking any service with Courage Travels via our website, email, phone, social media, or in person, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms & Conditions on behalf of yourself and all participants on your booking. If you are booking for others, you confirm you have authority to accept these Terms on their behalf.

3) Descriptions, suitability & special requests

  • Itineraries & inclusions.
Each tour page or quotation specifies what is included/excluded (transport, entries, meals, guiding, tips, etc.).

  • Suitability & fitness.
Most of our tours are open to all ages. Where age limits or minimum fitness/health requirements apply, they are clearly stated in the tour description. You are responsible for assessing your (and your group’s) suitability; if unsure, please ask us before booking.

  • Special requests & tailor-made tours.
We offer both fixed-itinerary tours and tailor-made experiences. Tell us about dietary needs, mobility considerations, or other requests at the time of booking. We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate them but cannot guarantee all requests. Additional costs may apply.

4) Pricing, taxes & invoices

  • Currency & pricing.
Prices are typically shown in USD unless otherwise indicated. Where payment is made in another currency, a reasonable exchange rate or the rate applied by your card provider/bank may be used.

  • Taxes.
Prices include applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. Where the ITBIS value-added tax applies under Dominican law, the current general rate is 18%. If an exemption or special rate applies to a particular service, it will be reflected in the price or invoice.

  • Fiscal receipts.
If you require a Dominican Comprobante Fiscal (NCF) or a business invoice, please provide your details (e.g., RNC, company name) at booking or payment.

5) Booking, deposit & payment

  • How to book.
You may book through our website, email, phone, or social media.

  • Deposit.
A 50% deposit of the tour value is required to confirm your booking. No reservation is guaranteed until the deposit is received.

  • Balance.
Unless otherwise specified, the remaining 50% is due no later than the tour start (or earlier for certain services where suppliers require prepayment—this will be stated in your confirmation).

  • Payment methods.
We accept cash, bank transfer, and online card payment. Bank/processing fees are your responsibility and non-refundable.

  • Failure to pay.
If the deposit or balance is not paid when due, we may cancel your booking; standard cancellation terms will apply.

6) Cancellations, changes & refunds

Your cancellation

  • 48 hours or more before the tour start: 100% refund of amounts paid.

  • Less than 48 hours before the tour start: the 50% deposit is non-refundable; any balance paid (if any) will be refunded.

  • No-show / late arrival: considered a cancellation within 48 hours; no refund of the 50% deposit.

  • Refund method & timing. Refunds are issued to the original payer/method. Card refunds may take several business days to appear on statements (your bank/provider controls posting times).

Date or itinerary changes by you

  • Changes requested after confirmation are subject to availability and may incur extra charges imposed by suppliers (e.g., transportation, entries, third-party partners). We’ll advise you of costs before proceeding.

Courage Travels’ changes/cancellations

  • We may modify or cancel a tour when reasonably necessary due to weather, safety, government regulations, park/museum closures, supplier issues, or other operational reasons.

  • If we cancel before start: you may choose a full refund or an alternative date/experience of comparable value (subject to availability).

  • If we must materially alter an itinerary: we will make reasonable efforts to provide equivalent experiences. If not possible, we will refund the price difference for any significant unused portion.

Force majeure
We are not liable for changes, delays, or cancellations caused by events beyond our reasonable control (including but not limited to extreme weather, natural events, government actions, strikes, health emergencies, or major transport disruptions). Where force majeure prevents delivery, we will seek practical alternatives or provide appropriate refunds for undelivered services after reasonable mitigation.

7) Participation, conduct & safety

  • Briefings & instructions. You agree to follow safety instructions from our guides and from third-party operators (e.g., boat captains, park rangers). We may require you to sign a liability waiver for certain activities.

  • Right to refuse service. We may decline service or remove a participant from a tour if behavior is unsafe, illegal, disruptive, or impairs others’ enjoyment, or if a participant is unfit (including due to alcohol/drugs). No refunds are due in such cases.

  • Personal belongings. You are responsible for your belongings at all times.

  • Environmental & cultural respect. Please follow Leave-No-Trace principles, adhere to park rules (including drone/photography restrictions), and respect local communities and wildlife.

8) Transportation, third-party suppliers & inclusions

Some services (boats, horseback riding, off-road vehicles, museum/national-park guiding, restaurants) are operated by vetted third-party suppliers. We act with reasonable care in selecting partners but do not control their operations. Their own terms, tickets, and waivers may apply in addition to these Terms. If a supplier cannot deliver a component, we will make reasonable efforts to substitute a comparable service or refund the undelivered portion.

9) Liability & insurance

  • Our coverage.
Courage Travels maintains professional/civil liability insurance consistent with Dominican tourism regulations for travel agencies/tour operators.

  • Your coverage.
We highly recommend that all clients obtain comprehensive travel insurance (medical, personal accident, belongings, trip cancellation/interruption). We can assist you in identifying options but do not sell or underwrite insurance.

  • Assumption of risk.
Many activities involve inherent risks (e.g., uneven terrain, water activities, off-road travel, weather, wildlife). By participating, you accept these risks.

  • Limitation of liability.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for claims arising from any booking is limited to the amounts paid for the affected service. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses (e.g., missed flights, additional accommodation, loss of enjoyment), except where liability cannot be excluded under applicable law.

10) Health, disabilities & minors

Please inform us before booking of any medical conditions, disabilities, pregnancy, mobility or dietary requirements that might affect participation so we can advise on suitability or necessary adjustments. Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing.

11) Documents & compliance

Participants are responsible for carrying valid identification, visas (if applicable), and complying with Dominican laws, regulations, and park/museum rules. We cannot accept responsibility if you are denied entry or participation due to missing documentation or non-compliance.

12) Photos, media & testimonials

We may take photos or short videos during tours for safety, trip memories, and reasonable promotional use. If you prefer not to appear in promotional content, please tell us (and your guide) before the tour begins. You may take your own photos/videos provided you respect privacy, cultural norms, and site rules.

13) Privacy & data protection

We process your personal data to manage inquiries, bookings, payments, tour operations, and support. Our detailed Privacy Policy (separate document) explains legal bases, retention, rights, and contact points for data requests. We handle personal data in line with applicable Dominican data protection rules (including Law 172-13) and reasonable security practices.

14) Complaints & customer service

We aim to resolve issues promptly and fairly. Please raise any concern during the tour when we can still help fix it. If you remain unsatisfied, contact us in writing within 7 days of the tour end at lara@couragetravels.com. You also retain your rights under Dominican consumer protection law.

15) Governing law & jurisdiction

These Terms, and any non-contractual obligations arising out of or related to them, are governed by the laws of the Dominican Republic. Unless agreed otherwise, disputes are subject to the courts of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer rights.

16) Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The version in force at the time of your booking will apply to that booking, unless a change is required by law, in which case it will apply as stated.
