Pico Duarte
Pico Duarte stands as the tallest mountain in the Caribbean, rising an impressive 3,098 meters (10,164 feet) above sea level in the heart of the Dominican Republic. What makes Pico Duarte truly special is not just its height, but the dramatic contrast it creates within the Caribbean landscape—towering high above tropical coastlines, it features cool alpine temperatures, occasional frost, and rich ecosystems ranging from pine forests to cloud-covered peaks.

Itinerary

Our adventure begins in the afternoon with a scenic drive to La Ciénaga de Manabao, a charming mountain village nestled in the heart of the Cordillera Central. Upon arrival, we settle into a local hotel, where we will spend the night and prepare for the journey ahead.

After an early breakfast the following morning, we begin our trek at 6:30 a.m. The hike takes us through breathtaking mountain landscapes, with several stops along the way for rest breaks and lunch. By approximately 5:00 p.m., we arrive at our campsite for the night. While our guides prepare a well-earned dinner, you can relax, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and reflect on the day's achievements before turning in early for a good night's rest.

The next day starts long before sunrise. We wake up at 3:30 a.m. and set out on the final ascent to the summit. Our goal is to reach the peak just in time for sunrise.

Standing atop Pico Duarte as the first rays of sunlight illuminate the mountains (if there is no fog) is an unforgettable experience. After the challenge of the climb, the sense of accomplishment is truly indescribable—a moment worth celebrating and remembering for a lifetime.

After taking in the panoramic views, we descend back to camp La Compartición, where we enjoy a hearty breakfast. Refreshed and re-energized, we begin our journey back down the mountain.

We arrive back in the village at approximately 5:00 p.m., where our driver will be waiting to take us home, bringing an incredible adventure to a perfect close.
