About the place
Samaná is one of the Dominican Republic’s most breathtaking natural treasures, and each year it becomes the stage for one of nature’s most extraordinary spectacles. From January to March, hundreds of humpback whales migrate to the warm, protected waters of Samaná Bay to mate and give birth. Watching these majestic giants leap, splash, and communicate in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience that blends awe, emotion, and pure wonder.

Itinerary

Our Samaná whale-watching adventure begins early in the morning, around 5:30 AM, as we set off along one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the Dominican Republic. After a scenic drive of approximately 2 hours, we pause for a breakfast stop to fuel up for the day ahead.

Upon arriving in Samaná, we board a comfortable, certified whale-watching boat and head into the stunning Samaná Ba, one of the world’s best locations to observe humpback whales in their natural habitat. Depending on the whales’ activity, our excursion lasts 2 to 3 hours, giving us plenty of time to witness breaching, tail-slapping, and other breathtaking behaviors. It’s an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime encounter with nature.

After our whale-watching experience, we return along the North Coast and stop in Cabrera for a refreshing swim at Playa de los Cocos, one of the most beautiful and untouched beaches in the Dominican Republic.

Recharged, we head to a local restaurant to enjoy a delicious, traditional Dominican lunch, the perfect way to round out this incredible day.

We then drive back home, arriving in Cabarete/Sosúa around 6:00 PM, filled with memories of one of the most spectacular natural experiences the island has to offer.
