About Puerto Plata
Puerto Plata captures the essence of the Dominican Republic — a vibrant blend of golden beaches, lush mountains, and rich history. Framed by the majestic Mount Isabel de Torres and washed by the turquoise waters of the Atlantic, Puerto Plata offers everything from adventure and culture to relaxation and charm. Its colorful Victorian architecture, lively local life, and nearby natural wonders make it a destination that captivates every traveler seeking authentic Caribbean beauty.
Itinerary
Our journey begins with a scenic drive up Mount Isabel de Torres, where we’re rewarded with panoramic views over Puerto Plata and the sparkling Atlantic Ocean. We’ll take a leisurely walk through the beautifully landscaped botanical gardens, learning about native plants and the cultural heritage of the Dominican Republic along the way.
Next, we head to El Gallo Ecolodge, where a typical Dominican lunch awaits. Here, we’ll tour the garden, discover how local products are cultivated, and relax in the ecolodge’s refreshing cascade pool surrounded by lush greenery.
After lunch, our adventure continues into the historic town of Puerto Plata. We’ll first visit a local chocolate factory to see how artisanal chocolate is made — a treat for the senses! Then, in the charming colonial center, we explore the Amber Museum, where we’ll uncover the fascinating history of Dominican amber and learn about cigar production, one of the country’s most celebrated exports.
We’ll stop at Puerto Plata’s best ice cream shop for a sweet refreshment before strolling through the Victorian-style streets, visiting the cathedral and central park, and soaking in the town’s vibrant charm.
Our final stop is the historic Fort San Felipe, perched at the edge of the ocean. Here, we dive into the history of the fort, the city, and the Dominican Republic itself — the perfect ending to a day full of culture, nature, and discovery.
